A Glimpse of the Cosmic Adventure
The first thing you notice is the map.
It covers the observatory table, spills over the edges, and seems to keep unfolding long after any sensible map would have stopped.
Near one corner, a tiny blue world glows beside an unfamiliar name:
URANTIA.
"Earth?" you ask.
"Apparently," says Tyrion, our small, fluffy white travelling companion. He examines the map with one bright central eye, while his two perfectly ordinary ears listen for trouble. A little T glows on his collar.
"Wonderful," he says. "At least we know where we parked."
But beyond Earth, the map becomes outrageous. It shows a central paradise, a billion-world universe, seven superuniverses, and more celestial headquarters than anyone ought to have to visit on a single holiday.
"Who planned this itinerary?" Tyrion asks. "Someone with an unlimited travel budget?"
This is the universe described in The Urantia Book.
You haven't been here two minutes.
And already something is going wrong.
A warning light begins flashing at the far edge of the map.
SATANIA — DECLARATION OF LIBERTY
"Liberty?" Tyrion says. "That sounds promising."
"Perhaps," comes the reply. "But a brilliant celestial administrator named Lucifer has decided that the universe needs new management."
Tyrion looks at the warning light.
"Oh, dear. One of those meetings."
Worlds are about to choose sides. Old loyalties will be tested. A disagreement about freedom will turn into a rebellion.
And somehow, Earth is going to become involved.
Tyrion glances back at our tiny blue planet.
"We've only just arrived," he says. "Do you think they'll let us leave before the speeches begin?"
Not a chance.
The adventure begins with a dangerous question: What happens when someone becomes so certain of their own freedom that they forget everyone else's?
